M1 Carbine help
My bolt jumped out of the slide mortise(don't know how it could but did) and now the locking lug on the bolt is keeping the slide from going forward enough to remove the slide spring guide. Is there any way other than cutting the guide to remove it?

I plan to buy an M1 Carbine in the next 3-6 months. I want to start looking around now, but I have no idea. What are the good ones? Which should I avoid. What price range is reasonable? What are the pros and cons of GI vs. commercial carbines? This will just be a plinker, also. All help appreciated, guys.

Welcome to the forums, I am no expert on M1 Carbines, but nice, all original ones have been selling for around $600-$800 at shows. I am sure that someone else can narrow it down for you.

As described $800 -$1,000+ and don't unwrap any more mags.

Well, actually, a nice arsenal rebuilt carbine would sell in the $600-800 range today. A minty original carbine would easily sell for twice that.
But, it's impossible to tell exactly what you have without seeing high quality photos of it. If you are able to post them, we could give you a better idea of what you have. There are just too many parts that must be described for us to figure it out on a forum.
If you want to try to figure it out for yourself, buy a copy of Craig Riesch's "U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production".
