Remington 710
My son will be 14 before deer season and is ready for his first centerfire rifle. He likes the looks and feel of the 710 and I like the price. I'd like some feedback from anyone who owns or has fired one of these rifles a lot. How do YOU like it?
Also, he and I could swear we saw one of these chambered for .308 Winchester last year. From looking around a bit, I see that this rifle is not currently chambered for any short action cartridge. Are we confusing the 710 with another rifle we looked at, or did Remington make this in .308 at some point?

1st, Welcome to the forum. Don't let us opinionated members run you off. There are a lot of truly helpful and knowlegeable people willing to voice their opinion.
Personal opinion is that you would be beter served with one of the Savage 'package' deals. Other than price I don't think the 710 has much going for it.

Second the save suggestion.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
I had a 710 for less than a month and was very unimpressed with it, and im a huge fan of remington rifles. id go with a savage or a used 700 or 70 before this rifle.

For about $40 more Get the Remington 700 ADL Synthetic, I know the 710 comes with a scope but its a Budjet piece of junk and not worth
mentioning. I do own a 710 as my pick up Truck gun its "OK" but the quality is not there Its got an Alloy receiver and a Plastic trigger guard, Night and day differnce between the 710 and 700 ADL.

Good advice from all of the above. I'd stay away from the 710 if I could..........[8D] 0 -
[xx(]Well thanks a lot, Since nobody has anything good to say about it, I think I'll keep on looking. Deer seasons long past and theres no rush. Maybe I'll trade around and set me sights a bit higher. I'm really glad to find a forum where I can hear from actual consumers. Everything you read is advertise based.[:)]

These guys talked me out of buying a 710 for my son. I'm looking at the Savage and Howa package guns for him now. Since we want a short action cartridge it made the switch pretty easy anyway. Thanks from me too guys. [:)] 0 -
This is a good time to find a good deal on deer rifles at your local gunshow. The season is over and most "dealers" don't want to hang on to them for another six months. I agree with the above mentioned, save a few more $ and get a 700 ADL. It's much nicer than the 710. Just my 1/2 cents worth.[:p] 0 -
If I remember correctly this was a budget gun to try to compete with the Savage, Howa, ect. It seems if you do a search on the 710 here, a while back this came up. I think the guys were saying the bolt wasn't holding up on this gun and Remington really doesn't have/want to fix it. I think I remember them saying it has been discontinued and no parts available. Weatherby's budget line is made for them by Howa, still same quality. CZ also has some really nice stuff, tho a little higher, and as mentioned by bigcountry, we're in the thick of gun show dealin' season and there's always somebody looking for the newest mega-slayer (you know that puny ol' 30-06 just don't bring down them kevlar deer the way it should). You might just find a really nice old/new 700ADL/BDL that's been collecting dust in a closet. 0 -
I heard the Winchester mdl 70 super shadow is a good deal. Cost just a little bit more than the 710 and comes in the new WSM's. 0
