Taurus Model 445 44 sp Revolver
I am thinking of buying one of these revolvers currently being offered on GB. Sole purpose is home defense, will not carry. Presently have full size 1911 A1 but find it to big and heavy. Figure the .44 sp, in home defense loads, is pretty close to the .45 ACP in all demensions, wt, grain, velocity, stopping power, etc. Would like to hear any and all all opinions, good/bad/indifferent. I am looking at Taurus because it seems like a good piece and the price is very reasonable compared to other similiar revolvers. Joe Newport RI USN Retarded

44 would definately change somebodys mind about taking your vcr. Taurus revolvers are good guns, I keep a Tracker 4" .357 in the house. Primarily though, I keep an 870 12ga with #2 under the bed at night. 0 -
Good value revolver.
Kinda confused about your concern over the 1911 size/weight if this is only a home defense gun. But revolvers are simpler to operate and if you feel comfortble with this size revolver it will fill the HD bill just fine.

That's an Ultra Lite. It'll have pretty heavy recoil.Welcome Joe,glad to see I'm not the only retarded one on this forum.

I have the 445 in Titanium snub. It is a light, accurate, and handy piece. For HD the .44 spl is a great round. Expect a very loud report, and even with the ported barrel the recoil is a handful. I gave $360 new which was probably too much, but no regrets, a fine pistol.

Great choice for home use. I don't think it kicks much more than a FULL POWERED 38+P. The ported barrel keeps it managable. But I like a HARD kicking gun.....so ATF maybe right. Rent one if KICK may be an issue.
I seen this gun you are talking about this past weekend at the gun show for $299.00 (brand new in the box)
As far as a TAURUS goes.....I think they are all fine guns.

I just recently bought the 445 Titanium and I like it so far. I am still trying different ammo to find what it likes best. I am a huge fan of the .44 special and .44 mag. Taurus has the lifetime warranty and the price is right. I say go for it. 0 -
Hello, I have a polished 445 DAO and I like it very much. Had a little problem with timing but I fixed that with a little file work (very little). I would recommend it to anyone.
