Again, DOM for S & W model 36

I just picked up a S & W model 36 in "as new" condition and was wondering how old it is? It has a flat latch, pinned barrel, old style diamond grips and unrecessed cylinder. S/N is 379xxx. Thanks, Hlouie

  Hard to get exact year, but serial number looks like the early 60's. The thumbpiece was changed about 65-66.

  Std. Catalog gives range of s/n between 1962 (295000) and 1969 (786544), but in 1966 the flat latch was eliminated so the date range is narrowed to between 1962 and 1966 and I'd further "swag" the date to be 1963 or 1964. To totally pin it down you'll need to get a factory letter.
