AR-15 Silencer

I am looking to buy a can for my AR-15 and have done some research but still have a few questions to those who have and use one already. First off is there a certain type of ammo that runs best with one and do they make a subsonic ammo in .223? If they do then I would most likely have to change the buffer spring(or something) to compensate for the lower power level correct?

I have also been told that certain cans get fowling built up faster with powder residue etc and are harder to clean or repair.

Also is there a warranty on certain brands? How many rounds should I expect to be able to run without replacement/repair? Thanks for your time.

    Hello MarcAR15:
Well Supreme One might have been a little generous - only have wide experience in small caliber silencers - not Fake Silencers.

The thing people might remember is:
    http://www.happynanoq.dk/silencer/
Built my own silencer/supressor out of a MagLite 3 D-cell flashlight.

Maybe the company in Germany... FRANKONIA, might be able to help.
They have a lot of stuff - but I doubt anyone in Europe have the fake silencers, as the laws aren't as weird as in the US. (No pun intended..).

And it's also doubtfull that you'd find an American store or shopowner that will jump through the hoops to learn the art of Export.

You might want to talk to:
    http://www.soundmoderators.co.uk
They deal in silencers - I don't know if they have a line of Fake Silencers.
Just write them - have had positive conversations with Jackson Rifles.

Sabre Defence might also have what you're looking for.
They seem to make an AR15-clone - in standard and tricked out with silencer.

You are probably looking for this, they are pretty much junk, if you don't believe me, read the article on them following. Better you learn the bump method.

    MarcAR15:
I would suspect they would want to send to Holland.

There was seemingly no trouble in sending their products to Greenland/Denmark - no papers needed for a transfer out of England at that time. I don't know if that's changed.

It was my own responsibility to know the laws of my country and to obtain the proper permits, if needed.

The Reflex-supressors/silencers are amongst the best ever made - at least that's what I hear and read. Have no personal experience with them as such - other than testfired a rifle with one.

Instead of a Tri-Burst or Hellfire system, I'd suggest - as allready mentioned.. that you'd learn how to Bump-Fire or find your rifles "Sweet spot".
I'm sure you can find something about it in the forum here.

Good luck at finding a Fake silencer/supressor, even if it's just for the looks of it.

The guns n stuff link has one for the ruger 10/22 for like $35.

Should in theory work on the Ar as it is the same bullet diameter and barrel thread size.

There's a guy selling lightning link information kits on ebay. Good for educational purposes, don't make one. Will make her go full auto and is baaaaad.

Hello, HappyNanoq, sorry about the misspelling, won't happen again.

    Supreme One:
No harm done, but I can't see where the misspelling would be =o)

However.. I wouldn't want to risk it, using a silencer for a 10/22 on an AR-15 - mainly of one reason.

It's not that the bulletdiameter is exactly the same - but because the pressure is so much bigger in a .223Rem than in a .22LR/.22Mag.

The original .22LR and .22Mag silencers/supressors I've seen, have all been marked with or it's been recommended not to use it on anything else than .22LR or .22Mag.
It's generally not advisable to use it on a rifle of bigger caliber or special care should be taken if it's ever to be tried out.

Building a silencer (commercially) is a science - because it's got to hold up to the pressures that's developed, but it also have to be as light as possible - which is not too easy to have in one silencer.
    Bigger pressure = heavier silencer.

Silencers would be built as light as possible, because the extra added weight on the barrel, might shift the point of impact.
Unless you go for the looks of it.
