Remove the barreled receiver and triggergaurd from the stock. Spray them off with brake cleaner. Clean the stock with hot water, a brush, and citrus-based cleaner (ie. Formula 409 or similar). Allow to dry for a few hours, wipe down the action with an oilcloth and reassemble. Total cost: about $10

Any type of action cleaner will work. Just make sure you oil down every thing afterwards to make it nice and purdy. The apply some gun stock wax and she'll be fine.

Kerosene works well also, if you're brave, can stand the smell and are aware of the fire/explosion risk, use gasoline. Works fast and works well. 0 -
To get any remaining oil/greese out of the wood, make a thin paste of ditamicious(sp) earth (available at any swimming pool supply store, and is the same thing as the "whiting" sold by Brownells) and alcahol. Apply to the stock and let dry. Brush off and repeat until the dried paste is still white (the yellow staining of the paste is the oil it's pulling from the wood)

I took the stock off and used oven cleaner to get the cosmolene off, it penetrates the tight places and foams it out. I repeated several times rinsing in hot soapy water. But dont let the oven cleaner sit on it too long.
iI used hot soapy water and a stiff brush on the stock.
bin laden .... look behind you.0
