Magnum Primers

Getting ready to reload some .223 Remington ammo. Reloading with the popular BLC2 powder, my Speer reloading book recomends using CCI-450 magnum primers.

My question is: I have several Federal #205 small rifle primers as well as Winchester # WSR primers, these are not designated as "magnum", what would be the difference between these and the CCI 450's?

    Thanks in advance.

Should be OK if you'll back off a couple grains on your load to compensate. Don't know what type powder you're using, but some, like H110, need a little hotter fire to properly ignite them, anyway.

He's got them for $10 a thousand, which is pretty cheap around these parts. I go thru alot of primers as I load for myself and two buddies, so it is worthwhile to buy the magnum primers and save a little cash. I am using 231 powder for both the 45ACP and 45Colt. I am in the middle of the min/max range.

If you have an accurate load with standard primers, you may or may not have the same accuracy with magnum primers. Before you buy several thousand new primers, it might be wise to test a new load with magnum primers to see if you still have the accuracy you have been getting.
