my inaccurate S&W part 2....i noticed something
I don't know how many of you read my first post last week about my S&W model 457 .45acp being very inaccurate so here is the link to the first post http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=97982
Today i was inspecting the barrel bushing, barrel, slide, etc for some type of problem that could be causing the inaccuracy and i think i found something.
If i hold the gun with the barrel facing upward i can actually see the top half of the barrel sticking out of the slide (actually slide bushing) more then the bottom half of the barrel. I'm not sure if this is normal, or the barrel wasnt cut perfectly at the end, or if the barrel is actually cocked/bent somehow but its kind of odd looking. It only sticks out a tiny bit but its noticable. It looks almost like the barrel itself of bent down?!?
I have a picture of it but dont have anywhere to post it so if anyone wants help me out i can send you the pic.
Thanks again for all of the help
Mike

It may not be the problem. The slide spring pushes forward on the bottom of the barrel bushing, taking up all the play between it and the slide. This would cock the barrel bushing, making it appear the barrel may not be cut off square.
What you suspect may be possible but not probable.

i've also worked on a couple of these, on a good day off the bench a 4" 25 yrd group is as good as it gets. add to that a mushy 8 lb trigger pull and you could expect a 12" off hand group. 0
