clayborne 8 gauge
my grandfather has a J.P. Clayborne and brothers damascouse double barrel 8 gauge shotgun with cast chambers. It was made it Birmingham England i think. He bought it from the original owner with 5 boxes of shells. He thinks the man said he got it out of montgomery wards around 1900 to 1912 (ish). I would like to know whenit was made. Also what could be the value. Those shells he got with it are old paper Dupont/remington black powder shells with the original boxes and are and in good shape. Some are factory loaded, some are shot, some are reloads. They were purchased with the gun so they are old. What could these be worth.also could it be bought out of a wards catolog

My references note the name as being spelled J.P. Claborough, or J.P. Clabrough, as being a English shotgun maker from the 1880's to the early 1900's.
If your shotgun has the name spelled "Clayborne" it might be a Belgian "knock-off". They were famous for doing that. You can tell by the proof marks on the barrels and watertable.
Damascus barreled shotguns generally have little collectors value now a days. They're considered dangerous to shoot because of the barrel construction. Only value would be as decorative objects ( Wallhangers ).
