Are you sure it's not a Officers Mod Target?
    What Cal .22, .32, 38 Spl?

If your gun is chambered for the .22 LR cartridge, Serial Number 56315, then it was made in 1949. If there is still another digit at the end, such as 56315X, and is chambered in .38 special, it would have been made in about 1930.

The .22 LR would have a little more value than a .38 special because there were fewer of them made. There are quite a few very nice specimans of this revolver in both calibers out there. Given you have offered that yours is "pitted" on one side and someone has "defaced" it with their "initials" I would guess, (without seeing the gun), that its value is now confined to what a "shooter" would be worth. To me, this would be in the $200-$250 range, in my opinion. Hope this helps.

You omitted info on caliber, cylinder rotation and markings other than s/n for which there is no ready reference in my (most?) libraries.

Barrel length basically eliminates the 1st Issue (1904-1908)

That leaves either the 2nd or 3rd issue. So unless this is a 22 cal. you will need to provide the last patent date. However if it is a 22 then you have a 3rd issue that began production in that caliber in 1930. If it's not a 22 then things hinge back on the last patent date.

Now just taking a wild guess based on s/n I'd say you have a 3rd Issue and the mfg. date range for that model is 1927-1949 (except for 22 cal. as noted above).
