Information Please, Westernfield 820

Hello folks,
I just recently inharited the very first rifle that I learned to shoot with in 1978, [:D] from my Grandfather. It is a Westernfield model 820-B .22 bolt action rifle. Dose anyone know anything about the history of this rifle or company? I know that it is'nt worth much Being that when my Grandfather bought it in the mid 70's, he only paid about $40 bucks for it. It has very high in sentimental to me thou. Also, Would it be wrong to get it re-blued [B)]?

    Welcome to the Forums: The Westernfield was a Trade Name used by Montgomery Ward department Stores for many years..Your Rifle is Not a collector Piece...Take it out and Shoot it... Have it blued if you think it warrants it, or paint it with camo paint...Still gonna be worth the $40.00 grampa Paid for it...Or just keep it orignal and Clean...It will always remind You of the Day you first got to shoot it and the years in between....My Two cents worth..? Leave it like you got it...It will always mean more to You in the following years..And let Your Son pass it on to His Son One day...and all original....Best.....

    Would cost you more than value of rifle to have it reblued unless your are planning on doing it yourself (which I don't recommend).

    I cast my vote with Capt. keep it as is and enjoy the memories. Hopefully passing them on to your children ...

    [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] Use it but don't abuse it,as its not in the older collectable catagory now the Mossbergs and Westernfield guns are becoming more so every yr.Look on the auctions and see what the 340 Mossbergs are bringing and subtract approx 20% to get an idea of the value on the market for yours.As a rule the Mossberg rifle are good shooting guns. have fun, [:D][:D] [;)]
