A question for you pinned & recessed S&W fans
Once again, from sunny Florida [8D],
Now follow me on this one....My first LE gun was a S&W 64 but the 19 was and is my favorite. So I have this newly acquired 4" that is pinned and recessed like I like 'em. BUT....I didn't notice this until after I got the gun home to really pour over it. The top of the frame and barrel are bead blasted (??) to dull it down assumably to reduce glare....HOWEVER, only one side, the length of the gun, is dulled!! The other side is as bright and nickeled like the rest of the gun. I get a kick out of this because...and here is my question...I think the bright side slipped past being blasted!? A factory fluke? I mean, the blasted side can't be buffed to a nickel sheen...can it?
To the best of my knowledge the gun wears the original nickel...not a refinish job. Any help from those of you who KNOW your metal finishing, please help!! And I thank you ahead of time.

So, just to be sure, you have a nickel-plated Model 19, not a stainless Model 66? Proceeding with that assumption--there are three ways you can go. (1) You can remove all of the nickel plating from the top, and make both sides look alike by replating and sand blasting or bead blasting, or just replating and making the whole top shiny. An experienced blaster should be able to blend the two halves for you by, (2) making the existing shiny side match the dull side by bead/sand blasting. (3) You can make the existing dull side match the shiny side by adding more nickel plating to fill in the microscopic holes and dents made by the dulling process. I believe that the preferable way to proceed would be to refinish the entire top, dull or shiny, your preference. Really--it's no biggie; whatever way you decide to go. 0
