    NOTHING!

The No. 1, all versions, were chambered to 22 short.

Second, while none of my references list a Dec. 1877 Patent Date, such might be possible on the No.1 3rd Issue which was mfg. from 1868 to 1882 and had its' own serial number range, but a serial number of 28 would pretty much imply mfg. in the first year of production which being 1868 is 9 years before the patent date.

I hate to say this, but in this posting we either have "first post 'BS', and never to be heard from again", or we have someone that has been likely taken w/ a fake.

Now I guess we wait for another post or their fading into the "night" like the rest of the "bull crappers" that periodically infect the forum.[:(!]

Can you post a photo? If not, please give us the exact markings on the gun. Does it actually say "Smith & Wesson Model 01" & ".22 LR" on the gun?

At this point, I suspect that you are describing a European copy of a S&W. Are you saying you HAVE bought it, or are you considering buying it?

If you have digital images of the pistol or can make some, but you have no way to post them, drop me an email and we'll arrange for you to send them directly to me and I will then do a posting for you.

If this thing is legit we all want to help you, but you have to keep in mind that we are very limited without pictures. If your going to take images use a good strong light source and take them from every angle, and where there are markings do your best to get a clear closeup of those markings.
