Anyone knowledgeable of blueing acids?
I have been working with Plinkingtons, "American Rust Blue" and getting very fine results. It is quite expensive if one plans to do many rifles, so I researched Roy Dunlap's 1950 Gunsmithing book and found what I believe to be a similar solution called Old American Rust Blue, and am contemplating mixing a batch. Formulae call for Nitric and Hydrochloric acids, but do not mention concentration. Nitric Acid is available thru this source in 70-60-and 40%. Hydrochloric Acid is 28%. Is anyone aware of what concentrations would have been referred to in the old books?
Thanks

There's a guy that goes by "Thor" in the C&R Forums :

He restores Lugers and Mauser C96's, and uses rust-blueing methods used in the early 1900's. Can't guarantee it, but maybe he'll give you some pointers.0 -
