Black Gun Guys. What barrel is this?
My AR15 is early, triangle forearm, no butt trap in the stock and flip sight. The barrel has no steps and has "SAK MP B" on it. I think it is a 1 in 9 or better.
Does anyone know who made the barrel and what the twist is?
Thanks,
Mike

Don't know the twist rate, but the barrel was made by Saco Armament in Saco, Maine. They are still a prime weapons contractor for the US military.

Thanks Neal, At least now I have a place to start. Will hit some old catalogs for the twist.

I have a new M-16 replacement barrel made by Saco. It is 1 in 12 inch twist. Bought it 10-12 years ago from Numrich.

Also, you can check the twist rate as follows: place a tight patch, or brush, on a cleaning rod. Run is down to the chamber, pull back until it enters the barrel (tightens up). Take a black marker (Sharpie) and dot the top of the cleaning rod at the muzzle. Slowly pull the rod out, until the dot has come back around to the top. Measure the distance between the dot and the muzzle. This will be the one turn in inches rate of twist. Measured many by this method.

Thanks, Found out it is a 1 in 12 also. The MP means "magnetic partical tested". Never did find out what the B means. 0
