S&W 940-1 problem
Ok, I have a small problem with a SW 940-1 9mm revolver I recently aquired.
The gun is in absolutely perfect shape, looks to have had no more than 100 rnds through it however, I can get the cylinder to close when using the moon clips. In fact out of 5 different kinds of ammuntion I can only cloes the cylinder without the moon clips using just 1 kind of ammo.
It appears that the rims of the cases are just a few thousands too high and are scrapeing the inside of the frame where it closes.
I order new clips from SW and its the same story.
Anybody else had this problem, have any ideas?
I can use the gun withouth the clips but with just one type ammo and cant reload very quickly(have to insert a pencil or something to push out the empty brass.)

I have the same problem but only with Speer Gold dot ammo. All others that I have tried seem to work fine. I do have the factory S&W moon clips. It must be a dimnesional issue with the ammo, because when I changed brands of moon clips, I still had the same problem with that ammo. I do love that little 940!!! 0 -
I know of 940's that have cylinder lockup after 1-2 fired rounds, but haven't seen one that will not close when using moon clips and will only close with one type of ammo.
My advice wold be to contact S&W or if you have a gunsmith that you regularly use, take it to him and let him work with Smith.
I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones that has a 940 that has shot anything you feed it right out of the box, but as I said before I have seen 'em lock up so I know that there are some tolerance issues.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
I had a similar problem on my 625 in .45 acp with moon clips. I went to my gunsmith to have it checked out. I had spint gun powder between the ejector star and the cylinder. The ejector was not seating fully back down in its recessed area. I was amazed at just how little dirt in this area could cause this problem. He cleaned it and it worked fine after that. This tends to be one of the problems with these moon clip revolvers, especially if it is a tight fitting gun. This may or may not be your problem but it is worth a look see. Matter of fact just clean there with a spray of carb cleaner just to make sure. I never saw the dirt he cleaned out and I had checked the gun over thoroughly.
