You need to find a copy of Sam Fadala's book 'Black Powder Hunting'..Theres to many variables to giving balistics for Black powder shooting....Barrel Length, Twist, Powder Grainage, What make powder..Patching, How You seat the Ball...How you Swab the Barrel between Shots....The list goes on...!If You can find a Group that hold Monthly Black Powder matches....and can get invited to attend....You'll gain from the experiance...This advice come from over 50 years of personal experiance..............Best....

"Capt." is right about getting the Fadala reference. From there you learn by experience. Your rifle will like one loading a little better than the others and it will probably not be a max. load. Also if you start using BP substitutes you will need to work up a load for them as they have a little more "umpf", start at least 10% below your BP load.

Ideal situation is to find a group as then you have the benefit of the collective knowledge.

Welcome to the world of "smokepoles" they are messy but they sure are fun!

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

THE Dixie catalog is also often a good starting point reference--it has a lot of information in the back. Then, load and shoot until you get good groups.
