Which 380? Walther, Beretta, CZ....etc.
I'm thinking about a 380 pistol for the wife for CCW. How do these choices rate for reliability, accuracy, quality etc.......Beretta Cheetah, Wather PPK, CZ 83 & Browning BDA. Thanks.

The Beretta and the Browning are the same gun. They are alittle bit large for a CCW .380 but I would probably pick one of those 2.I have heard alot about those Walthers being very finicky about bullet consumption.Look at a Kel-Tec 3A-T also it is very small for a .380,affordable,reliable.

I like the Beretta/Browning for a very good feel in the hand. There size makes it better to control but also hinders the concealability. The PPK is great for conceal but does have a bark. Have her shoot both and let her tell you. If she handels the .380 and does not flinch look at a 9mm. My 2 cents [8D]

I have a Beretta 84 that I just love, but you might want to look at the pocketlite series from Colt (Gov't or Mustang). i think you and he will be very happy. 0 -
I know this doesn't answer the question, but have you considered a small 9mm? You can find a 9 thats as small as most 380s. 0 -
I would have nothing less than a PPk, but the double action pull may be a bit stiff for the wife. The others listed seem to be okay and the KelTec is lightweight. She needs to try them all. 0 -
The Kahr MK-9 is a VERY!! small 9mm.Dont rule out a good concealed hammer .38Special either. Its the female carry classic.Mateomasfeo (another board member here) just bought his wife one and she loves it and she was wanting an HK.When all things are considered the concealed hammer .38 Special is the absolute ideal female carry gun.No offense to any ladies here it has just worked out that way.[:)]

TRUSTA speaks the truth...
I got the S&W 340PD for my wife. If you want to know more about it search the general discussion forum.
The Walther PPK was the only gun I ever owned that I truely hated. So did my wife.

Colt Mustang or Govt Pocketlite, plus they make good ankle-weights!

The wife tried shooting my SIG P232-380 and kept it. Accurate, dependable, fit her small hand, and haven't got a chance to shot it since....[:)]

I have a ppk for myself, but my wife loves her smiyh sigma 380. trigger safety, size ect. The Kel tech are great but trigger pull for a petite woman is to much IMO. nambu 0 -
Thanks for all the replys so far! I understand that Beretta makes the Browning but the Beretta has the open barrel where the Browning does not. Berettas web site says the open barrel is what makes the gun so reliable. Would that make the BDA less reliable. does anyone own a BDA that can report on reliability. The S&W hammerless 38 looks neat but how does it conceal? I had the better half shoot a full size 1911 45 today and she didn't flinch with that but she felt it was too big for her hand. She says the recoil was manageable. A light weight, compact 1911 crossed my mind but I figured it wouldn't be near as friendly as the full size. I have not shot a compact to know for sure though.
Also: What is it about the Walther that some of you have not liked?0 -
Picked up the Keltek P3AT Saturday and installed a Bersa magazine extension today. This is a neat, tiny, light, thin pistol and the trigger pull isn't bad, BUT -- I'll bet dollars to donuts your wife wont be able to operate the slide. It's a bear. 0 -
If I was buying a .380 I would get either the Beretta 84 or the Sig P232. 0 -
All above, especially the LadySmith S&W .38. Simple, small, just plain works. I also own a Sig 230, but I prefer my 9mm Karh PM9.
Small, light, accurate.0 -
She would have no trouble concealing a Snub hammerless .38 on her person or purse.

S&W 908S, 9mm 8+1 With the fingerest mag, it is a comfortable gun.
PPK/S 380 ACP 7+1
The Beretta Compact 92 Type M had interested me for a bit, but I found it a bit thick.
I regularly shoot the Tomcat (Inox) in .32. It is very accurate.
S&W had a semi-auto out one year, I never got the model number, but it sure was a compact 380. Fella at the range bought it for his wife, and she didn't like it. I offered to buy it, and hopefully he will get back to me.0 -
Walther PPK but you need to change the sights.

Ive got a smith airweight too. You forget your carrying it, its so light. I think it conceals better than most autos, too. Check out www.clipdraw.com for a cool holster clip thing. 0
