Go to one of your LOCAL gun dealers and ask for advice and invest your money there. You'll feel a lot better about your purchase in the long run.

You can get it cheaper at Walmart, they sell retail at the price most small gun shops pay wholesale. But, you can't trade in an old gun. You won't get the knowledgeable service your local shop has. And, if you need service, or repair later, well, you know. The Savage is not fancy but is a good gun. Thjey have a good reputation for accuracy.

Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now.

If you really must buy from a chain, please try to use Dick's or Sports Authority, or at least something else!

What model Savage is it? If it's one of their 10 round semi autos, I wouldn't buy it simply because I don't like the long, protruding magazine on them. It will get in the way more often than you might think.

I have fired a Remington 597 LSS extensively with good results. The standard model 597 is priced competitively with the Savage, but has a nearly flush magazine. As with any .22 auto loader, you need to keep it clean or you will have problems with feeding and ejecting.

    Here's a link for the 597: http://www.remington.com/firearms/rimfire/597.htm

And one for the Savage line: http://www.savagearms.com/rimfire_home.htm

The Savage semi .22lrs are basically pieces of junk. If you buy it watch lead bullets which will gum up these babies in a short time. $99 is dealer wholesale on these so yes its cheap. Keep it clean and you'll probably be OK . Guys above are right though by it from your dealer pay $20 more but he'll help you get it fixed and he'll take it on trade.

God gave us all a gift. Have you found yours yet ?

The Savage .22LR Caliber rifle from Wal-Mart is a very good purchase. I bought one a couple months back and it is very good. It is light in weight, and it shoots very accurately. The only thing wrong with this gun is the cheap scope that is included with it. The scope is hard to see through, but the gun is great.

On the other hand, the Ruger 10/22 is really hard to beat for reliability and IMO, worth the extra dollars spent. They are damn good rifles.
