    the 22mag is a good bit more powerful than the 22lr, i don't know if the chamber would be able to handle the increased pressure and power.

    no ....no...no.. been doing this for sometime & the pins wont hold headspace...use the model 71, 72, 74 savage stevens fav repro...pins will hold up, just groove or notch the hammer enuff to extract the casing when the block is down & hammer is forward...or buy a savage stevens 30g in lr, mag or 17...much fun

    Hey spasmcreek, thanks for that. i did check with a gunsmith recently. he said that the chamber and head space would be ok to alter but the firing pin would have to be moved or enlarged to strike the rim of the mag cartridge. I can manage all that but will need to make a new pin from spring steel. i 'm gonna go with the larger pin idea. Any other concerns?
