HK USP 40 Problem
I have a USP40 full size that has been problematic. The gun fails to feed ONLY the final round in the magazine maybe 3 times in 50 rounds. I have shot about 7,000 rounds thru it since I got it of which the first 4,000 or so produced absolutely no failures of any kind.
When it fails it either stovepipes thae last round (slug facing up), jams the head of the slug against the top of the barrel or throws the last round out with the previous empty simultaneously.
I used to love this gun but after two trips to HK (one of which resulted in a replaced broken extractor and a second with "No Problem Found") I'm just perplexed. They have supposedly replaced both my magazines so I don't think those springs are the source.
I think it's either the recoil spring assembly or the fingers on the magazines are spread and the "new" magazines they sent weren't really new. i really wish the 40 came with metal magazines like the 45.
Does anyone have anu ideas? I know HK isn't seeing the issue because they are only test firing a few rounds.
Oh one more thought. The magazine does not have to be filled to capacity for this to occur.
I want to be able to "trust" this gun again. Does anyone know of a really good HK smith?
I'm not spending another $26.00 to have HK reply no problem found.

I would go to http://www.hkpro.com/. The HK experts lurk there...
The only thing I have heard of in this regard is the magazine spring weakening faster than it should. The Wolfe replacement spring solves the problem.
Other than that, don't know...

I don't have any idea. But here are a few questions.
1. Did you speak with HK after it said it could not find a problem? Since HK replaced a broken extractor, there was a problem once.
2. What kind of ammunition are you using? Does it happen with all brands of ammunition or just one brand?
3. Does it happen if you cycle the rounds by hand?
4. Does it happen if someone else shoots the gun?
I downloaded the a booklet called the USP Pistol Armorers Instruction a long time ago. (Sorry, I don't have a link.) It is circa 1993. You are having a failure to feed. It identifies these causes:
Magazine - broken; lips broken; spring broken; loaded wrong
Recoil spring - broken or bent
Weapon dirty
Ammunition
If you are sure it is not you (given that you had 4,000 problem free rounds, it probably is not) or the ammunition, I would start with a new magazine. If that failed, I would try HK again. But I would make sure that HK would agree to fire at least 100 rounds to try to replicate the problem.0
