280 Rem vs 7x64 Breneke
The question is can a chamber cut for 7x64 be recut to 280 Rem? My copy of "Cartridges of the World" 8thEd says that the two are first cousins but not interchangeable. After looking thru all my sources I find that I have no numbers on the case dimensions for the 7x64. Can anyone out there recomend a souce where I can get the case dims. I want to know if the 7x64 can be recut to 280 Rem without having to take a thread or cut and rethread the barrel?

ern98,
I have always made it a practice to set the shoulder back and re-cut a bigger portion of the chamber. The shoulders are in different locations and at different angles necessitating a set back. Besides, this way you get a cleaned up throat. Use this link for some dimensional drawings. These were originally David LeGates' drawings from Rifle/Handloader but for some reason this guy thinks he can copyright them. Oh well! Print them out or save them to a file on your hard drive such as 'My Pictures' or a 'Word' document, etc.

Greg's site (above), the Clymer (and other) reamer web sites, should all have the information your asking about.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0
