I inherited a S&W Eastfield model 916-A 12ga pump with 3in chamber from my wifes grandfather. The barrel has been crudely cut down but is still legal. I wasn't even aware S&W produced shotguns. Can anyone give me any information on this shotgun as well as any history? I would like to know what is was worth and where I can get a replacement barrel if possible. Is it worth my money and time or should I keep it as home security?

[?] Normal as to what or who??? I have a S&W 3000 a Rem 870 and a Win. 1400 and they all push to the left to fire position. so i would think the S&W was a normal configuration?? If yours is on to the left my guess is it can be switched as i doubt the 1000 and 3000 used different systems. [:D]

Thanks, this safety pushes from left (safe) to right (fire). This is backwards to every safety of this type that I have ever used. On the first shot I pushed the safety and the gun would not fire.
I realized I had been waving a loaded gun around with the safety off. Thank God for safe gun handling, ie; no finger on trigger and gun pointed downrange.
I think will open her up and try to turn it around.

It ain't what you shoot, it's what you hit.

Chaser, you were right. I took it apart and reversed the safety. Easy...
