I posted this on the general forum and realized this might be a better place. Any one have any suggestions on factory 308 ammo? Brand, tips, wieght etc? I'll be hitting the show this weekend and I want to buy some decent ammo for my new M1A (M14)Norinco. I haven't shot it yet as this is the first rifle in this caliber I own. I'll be using the rifle for target only but am limited to factory as I don't reload. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks [8D]

There is some Australian-made .308 being sold currently which comes in plastic blister paks. This seems to be good ammo, better than the Indian-made .308, some of which won't fit in your gun! I've heard reports that to be reliable the Indian stuff has to be closely inspected which results in throwing 1 in 5 away, and that each individual round should be tried in your chamber. Better to pay a little more and get the Aussie ammo.

Also look for some Port. ammo, usually runs $145-160 per 1000rds at the DFW shows.

I would also look for the South African ammo. There is stll some of it around in 140 round battle packs.
