Pistol 16352896, on the GunBroker Auction is a "Percussion Boxlock Overcoat Pocket Pistol", with a screw off barrel.

This was a common pattern made in quanity by both English and Continental Gunsmiths between the 1820's and the 1850's.

If you give us all the proofmarks and manufacturers markings on your pistol we might be able to help you, with the country of orgin and value?

How would you grade your pistol, condition and quality wise as compared to 16352896?

Thanks for the reply...compared to 16352896... no Engraving,
grips are checkerd, no slide/ on top of receiver (behind hammer),
inside of barrel is smooth, not like photo of the other one,
barrel is octigon and not a screw on. Barrel and action are from
one piece of steel. Spring dagger is very close. Shape of grips is
same. The gun has file marks from a home clean up, I can find no
proof marks. The action works fine all screws and pins are in place.

With no proof marks, makers name, safety behind hammer, screw off barrel, it seems that your pistol was probably a inexpensive European manufactured piece.

My 2 cents is, that it would only have any value if it was in cosmetically excellent condition. From your description of it's current condition, it doesn't seem promising, that their would be any great collectors demand/value for your pistol.

Rufe-Snow is correct...Its more than Likely a Belguim Knockdown...Still surprised that theres No proof marks....Percussion was coming into its own by 1830...as the French developed the Percussion Principle in 1826...and it was far better than the Flintlock as far as keeping the Powder Dry....and Sam'l Colt copied the idea for his Patterson Colt and later guns...Value wise your pistol is going to be worth about $250.00 as discribed....If the maker was Known and the Country of origin known and if any History Known and provable....it could be worth much more......
