1911 usn
I recently bought a 1911 nickel plated 45 with USN stamped on one side I would like to know where is came from-- WW2 is what I was told when I bought it. I was also told that it was standard issue for pilots.I got it worth the money came with 3 clips there is some loss of nickel on the barrel.Would like to know its value and what ever someone can or would like to tell me.Thanks

We can't tell you much without your describing all markings on the pistol, including the serial #.
What we CAN tell you is that it was plated by Bubba; value is probably in the $300-400 range.

serial # is n024428--does this help --on the other side is stamped USN I think Bubbas disjointed cousin on his wifes best friend side did the job.thanks 0 -
Neal is, as he usually is, correct. If your pistol says, "Model 1911 U.S. Navy" it actually dates back to or just before World War I, and had it not been plated it would be worth about $2k. Sad indeed.[:(] But, you've probably got a great shooter![:)] 0 -
Interesting! I've never run across one with an "n" prefix serial number. I can see where a navy guy would consider plating a pistol to protect it from salt water corrosion. I'm pretty sure that this wasn't done by the Navy, but they may have owned or reworked the pistol at one time and stamped it. Still a good shooter! 0 -
just behind the trigger and above the button that lets the clips release the are the Intials-- FJA and below the serial # is the intials NJO 0 -
I haven't seen an "N" prefix on any USGI .45, either. Same for the "NJO" initials. And, I haven't seen a slide with no markings.
So, my best guess at this point is that you have a Filipino import from the '70s or 80's (Rock Island Arsenal?), & that Bubba has a set of dies that he uses to stamp military-style markings on guns that he has "improved".
