Age Rem 700 Aluminum Butt Plate

Hello All- In need of your knowledge and wisdom once again. I have a Remington 700 with an aluminum butt plate SN# 289714. My question is this. What is the year made? I can not seem to locate this number in any books because there is not a letter such as an E or U. Also I don't mean to keep asking silly questions but is there a web site that would help me date Remingtons? Thanks - Susan

    Go to:

    Look just in front of the resiever on left side of barrel.

    Find the 2 or 3 digit "date code".

    BTW,my '63 model 700 .222mag has the aluminum buttplate.

    There seems to be a problem w/the Remington sight.At least I can't seem to get into it.If you can't get it to work,just post the Date Code here and we can help.

    BOBBYWINS, My 222MAG starts with "104... I always figured it was 1963-4 but wore the original barrel out and now it has a 40XB barrel on it and sits in a 40XB stock and shoots "little bitty" groups!! Long live the 222MAG!!!! GHD

    Absolutley the best shooter I've ever owned.Since I don't reload,I've got to be careful about doing a lot of "plinking",but I think I've come across a source for ammo so maybe I can start enjoying it more again.[:D]
