Looking for info on a dealer - OnPoint in Florida
Ive been looking at purchasing a gun from On Point Firearms in St. Petersburg Florida. Ive never purchased a gun, let alone one off the internet...so Im a little bit leery. Their website says that they post on both GunBroker and Gun(s)America.com. Gun(s)America.com doesnt have the eBay style buyer feedback that GunBroker has and I havent found any info on them within gunbroker. I have spoken with 2 sales reps from OnPoint, one on email and one over the phone...they have been NOTHING BUT EXTREMELY NICE AND HELPFUL. However, they dont take CC's so Id be mailing a check. Id just like find SOME feed back.

BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU OF THAT CITY......

Good advice from the Capt. on BB
I've not heard anthing about them or seen any of their auctions.
As this is your first gun purchase why don't you check some of the actual shops in your area, look at the different models available to you and actually get the feel of them.
Not saying that you need to buy one from a shop, but, it would help to become more familiar with what is available, and if you see something that you like and the price isn't much greater than the auction asking prices of similar models ... then consider buying from the shop as for auction items you have to factor in both shipping, and transfer fee charged the FFL in your area that will be acting as your transfer agent.
+++ Update: Out of curosity I went online w/ BBB and they had nothing on the company. I then went to the companies Web site and notice that they give a Mapquest map to their shop, but no phone number. Next tried a couple Yellow Pages search engines and came up w/ nothing, even though you've stated that you have talked to them on the phone.
Strikes me as a little odd and I don't think it wise to go ahead with a purchase until you know more about the company. If they are on the up and up they shouldn't hesitate to give you references or their seller name on GB or other auction boards so you can check out their feedback. If they hedge you on this back away from them.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
I have always found BBB to be a waste of time when it comes to the firearms-related businesses.
I think Contender Man's investigation was a good step in the right direction. I also checked the AT&T online directory (www.anywho.com), & found no listing for them. I'm guessing that this is a "vest pocket" dealer who is working out of his home. Sure, there's an element of risk there, but I've been burned by large, well-established companies.
I suggest that you phone & ask for their FFL #; you can say, "My dealer needs to verify it before he can accept a firearms delivery." Then you can use the ATF EZ-check to be sure that they have a valid license; that will also give you his address. If they balk at giving you their FFL #, that should be a flag on the play.

first off, thanks for the replies and for taking the time to research a bit...I appreciate it. I did try the BBB for that city and found nothing as well. Their website does actually give out phone numbers on their "contacts" page...which is how I have been communicating with them. I was able to google their names and get a bit of information on them...which was positive. I think im going to see if I can get them to shoot me some references and their FFL number. Ill keep this updated with my findings.
nmyers - Good call on the FFL, I should try that.
Contender Man - Thanks for the advice. I have spent time in the shops and have found that the prices in my area are simply rediculous when compared to some of the auction prices. I have done a ton of research on the actual gun that I want and have even shot it side by side with some other models. Im ready to purchase :-)
oh yeah, incase anyone is interested - Beretta 92fs0
