Don't know about the other two, but the .17HMR (Hornady Magnum Rimfire) uses the .22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) case.

    Keep off the Ridgeline

There is another .17 scheduled to hit the market in September. It is also manufactured by Hornady and is called the 17MACHII. It is about the length of a .22lr and will be necked down as the current case except it is a 17grn bullet traveling at about 2000fps.

Been rumblings about this round for a while now. Last I heard there was speculation if Aguila would beat Hornady to market.

Be interesting to see the performance between the new round and the HMR.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

what is the point to these new .17 caliber rimfire rounds? yeah they are fast but they don't weigh anything. i would take a 22mag over these new rounds. there are bullets available for the 22mag that reach over 2000fps such as the remington v-max. if you want any more range than what a 22mag delivers then u need a centerfire.

I don't understand it. 17 caliber? Anyone remember the flash in the pan 5mm Remington cartridge? And how short lived it was?

I too like the 22 mag...it's been around a long time, and the ammo is a helluva lot cheaper than the 17 HMR.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not shooting at me!

I gotta go with the boys 22mag is perfect, got 22mag ammo at wallmarts the otherday..winchester dynapoint $5.75 a box,at the shows the wanted $9 for the 17 and I dont think that little extra speed is going to matter, you can buy 30grn 22 Mag right now thats almost if not as fast, plus they 50grn 22 mag that hits very hard, ammo is cheaper now then I ever remember got some 22LR 550 rounds for $6.00...wallmarts is great for ammo prices

    Billybass..

Keep track of how many misfires/duds you have out of a brick of 22LR you purchased at WallyWorld. I went through a period where I was experiencing somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 +/- duds per brick. I started buying the same ammo, Rem. Golden Bullets at a local gun store, and the misfires went away. Speculation is that WallyWorld puts so much pressure on manufacturer's to produce in bulk and sell cheap that quality control goes out the window.

If you want some really dependable ammo..buy it anywhere but WallyWorld...unless you don't experience misfires.

    My $0.02 worth

A friend will post your bail. A good friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying, "man that was fun!"

There are numbers/data listed on the Hornady website that compares the new Hornady Mach I rimfire to the regular 22lr.--Looks like the same 17 bullet used in the 17HMR put in a necked down 22lr case. They have it listed at 2100fps and I think it will be out late summer/early fall 2004. -- Midsouth Shooters Supply already has the ammo listed on their website even though it's not available yet. I believe it was listed for $5.23 a box.....................[8D]

The .17 HRM has a few characteristics that, under certain conditions, give it an edge over .22's. I have yet to find an exit wound on the critters that I have shot out to 50 yards.
My point being, that there is almost no chance of the round penetrating Mr. Rabbit through and through. If a shot is not well placed,(yee gads!), it is unlikely to punch through all but the finest of material. It is devistating for small critters. On the other hand, the .17 HMR is not a Cujo stopper.
