Colt 38 Auto AMU
Does anyone know how much a Colt 38 auto AMU conversion is worth? Its from 1960 somthing. It belonged to my dad. He was on the Army and/or Guard pistol competition team so its been accurized and is in great condition, though the sear might need replacement. There is the letter "A" and what looks like a chrysanthemum printed on the right side of the frame that local smiths seem to think makes it even more rare.

boltthrower, I believe the .38 AMU cartridge was a .38 Special that had the rim milled off and a groove cut so that it became a rimless version of the .38 Spec. I believe the ammo is collectable so if you have any of it I would suggest that you not shoot it up. Sorry I can't help with value. 0 -
In top condition kit should bring $550-600
Can find no info indicating "mum" varriation/rarity
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Thanks guys for the info. Yes I've discovered the ammo for it is very rare. I would hope that maybe the AMU still use it or have some stockpiled at Ft Benning that they would part with. 0 -
P.S. I had a local smith offer his appraisel. He figured around $1200, and an additional $200 if I got a signed letter from my dad stating he was a competitor and shot it during xyz time frame. 0 -
Are you talking the whole pistol or just the conversion kit?
My valuation, based on BB was for just the kit, not a complete pistol.
Blue book (in my opinion) is conservative, but I've never seen 'em that conservative.[:0]
