That's a long way to go for boresighting. Why not just put the gun in a vise, zero w/ iron sights, and then mount your scope and zero that on your point of impact?

    For what it's worth.

The M14-type flash suppressor are held on by a castle nut which is preferably removed with a tool made for the purpose; but it can be taken off by clamping the barrel in a bench vise and drifting the nut around with a hammer and pin punch. Why, though, do you need to remove the flash suppressor to bore sight the rifle? I assume that you are using a conventional boresighter that uses a spud placed in the bore to hold the boresighting instrument above the line of the bore to be looked at with a scope. The spuds are usually plenty long to pass through the suppressor and into the bore. Once you take these nuts off the suppressor it's hard to get them on permanently tight again without the tool.

Don't forget to remove the set screw that locks the castle nut. The allen screw is located on top just in front of the sight and is tapped at aprox 45 degree angle.

Here's a tool for sale here on GB.
