Legality question: Shipping to a Gunsmith
What are the laws in having a firearm shipped for repairs? Who can you ship to, how can you ship, and what are the legal requirements? Just looking to stay above to board in all things. Thanks guys.

All gunsmiths are required to have an FFL. He will usually be glad to send you a photocopy, although that's not necessary if you KNOW that he is an FFL holder.
You can ship only long guns by USPS; any type of firearm may be shipped by UPS & FEDEX. For UPS & FEDEX you must ship from a company counter; handguns must be sent by Next Day Air, long guns can go Ground.
Pack well & fully insure.

be careful. some states will let you send it to a ffl ok, but will require the smith to send it back only to an ffl holder in your state, not you. check your state laws.
