Springfield XD subcompact?
At a recent gun show I got to hold a Springfield (by way of Croatia) XD subcompact in .40. The Guns And Ammo magazine picture makes it look big, blocky and too square. The real thing looks much better. It fit my hand perfectly, was well balanced, and smooth. Obviously I didn't get to fire it. But, it was no longer or taller than a Bersa Thunder .380 and maybe even smaller than a Glock 27! Price was $459. I have a friend with an FFL who will probably sell it to me at wholesale cost. I figure that to be around $359. I was thinking about buying a Kahr (MK40) but now...

I was in your boat as well, but I checked out a PM9, and it is about 1/2 inch longer than my Beretta Tomcat, no wider, and feels as light. I can carry it in my front pocket for true concealment. 9mm will take care of any problem. The springfield is nice, though... 0 -
I purchased the 9mm subcompact for my concealed. It fits nicely in the small of my back. I've already put a couple hundred rounds thru it in the last 3 weeks and have nothing but good things to say.

They must have shrunk em down, because I was comparing them to a Glock 27 side by side a few weeks ago and the Glock Is WAAAAY smaller. By the way if the CCW gets ironed out (pun intended) I'm going with the Kahr PM40, a friend has one and I've shot it...great gun.0 -
Get the springfield...not only is that a great price if you can get it, but the gun is well made and has more safety features than the more pricy glock

For Jgreen: Thanks. I like them both. What I wanted was a pistol about the size of the Walther .380 but in 9mm or larger. I am leaning toward the .40 S&W round but am concerned about how much that round will beat up the gun itself. 0 -
For Blatz13dad: You mean the Kahr, correct? Have you had any problems with take down and cleaning? Again, if the price is close, I'll probably go with the Kahr in stainless. 0 -
For Cletus85: I was comparing the new XD subcompact not the standard XD. If that doesn't help, I need to go back and have a second look. What I use is a holster or other rig to compare them. Around the KC. area, it is hard to get your hands on anything other than a Beretta, Ruger, or Glock. Kahrs and XD's? Good luck. 0 -
For hksrule: I was just about talked into the Kahr and you say get the XD. Choices choices choices. There was a time, a loooooooooooooooong time ago, when I was a charter member of the "gun of the month club." Now, kids, college, and child support means I have to be very careful about what I spend my money on...when I have any. 0 -
For Cletus85: I am on the board of directors for the Western Missouri Shooters Alliance (fancy name meaning I write articles for the Bullet newsletter). Anyway, we meet tonight to begin discussing what has happened in Missouri. I live in Jackson County so I am obviously very concerned. Kahr or Croat, please make up my mind for me...someone....
I just realized that this is my six hundred and sixty sixth post: 666, I hope my head doesn't start spinning around or desks in my classroom start moving around.0 -
I went to the Springfield Armory website and came up with the following stats for the XD Subcompact:
barrel: 3.01"
sight radius 4.1"
Overall length
of pistol: 6.26"
I haven't had time to run down the figures on the Glocks just yet. But, the Walther PPK has an overall length of 6.25 so this is maybe the gun. Again, I'll check the Glock and the prices.0 -
I am talking about the Subcompact, It appears much thicker especially around the muzzle area. Go with the Kahr, the trigger pull is so smooth it's unbelievable. Good luck with the Gun Talk, I hope something gets worked out soon. The sheriff hasn't decided what they will do in my county yet. It's not one of the 4, so hopefully things will progress in a few days. 0 -
I compared the SubXD, the glock and the PM40. Went with the Kahr, small and light enough to stick it in my pocket. The others were not. And I would never put a GLock in my pocket anyway. The Kahr has 5+1 shots of .40, that should take care of anything a CCW holder runs into. 0
