I dont know if Romania has any 100 round drums out there but I know that I have used 2 different ones on my SAR-1 before and they worked as well as did the 50 round drums. They do not load like normal mags or feed like normal mags though and they can be quite exspensive compared to other mags.I stick with the 30 and 40 round banana mags because they feed better with mine but the drums did work in my SAR-1.Another thing is I dont know where the drums I have shot with were made but I know the standard mags made in China will work with my SAR-1 because my 2 40 rounders were made in China. So I would think that Chinese drums should work the same.

You can use the 75rd and 100rd Norinco drums in the SAR-1. I would advise against extended amounts of rapid fire as you will get the barrel super-hot. The SAR is built on the AKM(?) design which has a lightweight barrel which will not disippate heat quickly and will cause the barrel to wear rapidly when hot.

The only 100rd mags available in this country for the 7.62x39 AK's (to include the SAR-1) have been from China. The Chinese ones will fit the SAR-1. If the Romanian AK that you have is actually a WASR-10, you may find some fitting is required. The WASR-10's started out designed to fit a single stack mag. Some then were modified to accept a double stack mag by openning up the receiver's mag well. In doing so however, some will have been done in haste and need additional work before they will accept all high cap mags, to include the drums. I have encountered this on several occassions. The SAR-1's should be fine, but the Romanian WASR-10 may, or may not need additional work, even if was sold as being able to take the high cap mags.

You'd probably need something like the Norinco NHM91 or one of the VEPR guns with the heavier barrels. Even then, five drums back-to-back is still gonna get that gun HOT!!!

    500 rounds basically non-stop ?
You must be taking pictures. I know if I let my boys loose with a couple of boxes of 30 and 40 roung mags (with the 1 gun we restrict this to), you smell wood smoke at about 200 rounds.

I don't know if our 'rapid fire' gun was ever any better at grouping than one of our 'controlled fire' guns, but it sure is not now.

    Enjoy

The AK was designed to use 20/30 rd mags. The gun is rather lightweight and the barrel heats up quickly. The RPK was designed as a LMG/Support type weapon and has a heavier receiver and barrel to allow it to run extended firing cycles without overheating/failing. Hence, the 40rd mags and the 75rd & 100rd drums are actually for the RPK, not the AK. Although the are interchangable, you may (will) overheat your lightweight SAR-1 by feeding it 375+ rds nonstop. You can use a drum, just watch your firing cycles and be sure to give the gun some cool down time or you'll damage the gun and possibly yourself. On my SKS-M's and NHM-91 I limit the guns to 75 rd cycles with no cooldown time or 200 rd cycles when fired in bursts to allow barrel cooling. After that, they sit there and cool for about 5 minutes. Getting the barrel that hot also increases the possibility of "cooking off" a round (the bullet firing from being overheated by a hot chamber) which can be quite dangerous.[:0]

    Limitations:

Because the RPK fires from a closed bolt, it tends to "cook off" its cartridges after prolonged firing. Since the barrel cannot be changed, the sustained rate of fire must not exceed about 80 round per minute. The lack of a gas regulator causes rought action and vigorous ejection to the right rear when the gun is clean. It also causes the rate or fire to slow down gradually as residue and dirt accumulate in the gas port.
