if you can find one, look at the Armscor 1911 .45.....I had one ordered, trigger jobbed and have a good gun for the money...you do get what you pay for....to me this is a good value for the money....shot 1000 rounds through it without a hiccup...

Hello, Rock Island seem to be a very good choice.

buy an essex frame, buy all the little parts and a milspec slide at a gun show, pay a smith to assemble it and youll still be less than the cheapest one out there. and it will be better too.

I agree with the above senior member go Springfield and you can't go wrong. Have one of the first Compacts in 4 inch 45acp that is the most accurate box stock 1911 I have...building a 45acp and 400 Corbon on a Safari frame and a 9mm Commander on an Enterprise frame for my youngest son...1911 what a weapon!

is this for target/plinking or carry? for target and plinking I'd go with the spring Mil-Spec, excellent gun and very accurate. But if it is for carry you'd be better off geting him one that comes with night sights or will accept night sights.

Had a 1911 called a Griffon, made in Egypt. Quality was very good, accuracy was excellent as was function-never failed to feed/fire. Wasnt expensive either, paid 350 for it. Wouldnt mind having another. Came factory with extended slide stop, ambi safety, nite sites, full length guide rod, etc.
