Good, inexpensive 1911 .45
Seeking real-world experiences. I'm looking for one for my son. I've read mixed reports re: the Rock Island clone, and I understand you usually get what you pay for. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thx much.

if you can find one, look at the Armscor 1911 .45.....I had one ordered, trigger jobbed and have a good gun for the money...you do get what you pay for....to me this is a good value for the money....shot 1000 rounds through it without a hiccup... 0 -
Take a look at the Witness, sell new for under $400.00 All steel and well made. 0 -
SA Mil-Spec...$440...you'll have to hunt around to get it at that price, but they are out there (SA just had an incease over the entire line)

Hello, Rock Island seem to be a very good choice.

buy an essex frame, buy all the little parts and a milspec slide at a gun show, pay a smith to assemble it and youll still be less than the cheapest one out there. and it will be better too.

is this for target/plinking or carry? for target and plinking I'd go with the spring Mil-Spec, excellent gun and very accurate. But if it is for carry you'd be better off geting him one that comes with night sights or will accept night sights.

Had a 1911 called a Griffon, made in Egypt. Quality was very good, accuracy was excellent as was function-never failed to feed/fire. Wasnt expensive either, paid 350 for it. Wouldnt mind having another. Came factory with extended slide stop, ambi safety, nite sites, full length guide rod, etc. 0
