I own a blued series 70 Gold Cup. Question is why is the safety lever "purple"? This gun is in 98%++ condition and the blueing is beautiful.
    Thanks to any replies.

If you aren't the original owner it could be that something was spilled on it, maybe when pistol was disassembled and part was on the bench. Or it could be an aftermarket piece. Or it could just be a poor job on the part from the factory, although back then the QC was pretty darn good especially on their upper end pieces.

If you are the original owner, do you recall spilling anything on it?

I've had alloys that turned funky colors from heat and/or exposure to the sun, but I don't think that would apply here ...

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

I have several Gold Cups made in the mid 70's, they too have a purple tint to the safety and slidestop both...does not affect the piece at all.

The purple color is mostly seen on reblued colts. Hopefully in your case just the parts were reblued not the whole gun.

I will agree with those who have said the "purple" is original. During the 1970s, the UAW at Colt was making life miserable at Colt and the "purple" parts are one result. I have several sets of factory ambidextrous kits and all are "purple." My 1976 Gold Cup does not have "purple" parts, but many did.
