    susan,
the high standard collectors association have a very good web site and can probably give you a better idea of the value of your model 103. just type their name into your search engine should come up.

I remember that spacegun. My dad had one. While he had many and I got several of them, my brother,(in another state) got the High Standard "Spacegun". That was the coolest gun...Thanks for triggering my brief walk down memory lane.

you have a gun worth approx 600.00 to 800.00. is the rear sight on the barrel or on the slide? this is critical in establishing value. save the trip to the hsca site. im an old member.

you have whats known as an 8" 103 citation space gun with all the bells and whistles. its a very nice gun if its not abused. it is the next step down from the top of the line, which is the trophy. citations were the economy minded line of hi std and the most popular and the most plentiful. but, its more of a collectors gun than a shooters gun. the 8" bbl tends to be muzzle heavy and wasnt popular for champions. same applies to the 10" bbl. the bbl sight set up was designed to give better optic blade view on daylight ranges outside. the farther the rear sight is from your eye, the more precise it is when focusing/aiming. but it is lousy for indoor ranges under artificial light. next, ensure the bbl has an eagle logo on it. then, ensure the slide and frame numbers match. your gun would have brought in more if it had the walnut thumb rest grips. i'll bet those grips have eagles on them, dont they!? what color is the mag? white metal or blued? also, is this gun 22LR or 22 short? let me know.

no, i was still in the navy. my good friend luther mitchell went for me and reported back. btw...i live about 20 minutes from bob shay and 40 minutes from jim spacek now. i havent checked up on them in years, ever since my dad took ill. its been a lot of stress on me and i lost contact with all my hsca friends. i even had to sell over 3/4ers of my collection to pay dads hosptial bills. (it was well spent.) gun? dad? guess which one wins? btw...for sue's info, another reason the sight was put on the bbl was because some shooters complained that the sight moved every time it was shot if it was on the slide and it distracted them. hi std was very customer conscience. and too, your gun is approx 44 years old.

i thought i recognized the name. what did al do, screw up hi std even more? who did he sell it to? the navy shooting team use to order guns from him, but it was like pulling teeth. his son went off to be a campaign advisor for the bush race and left a lot of us hanging. i actually use to have to call late at night and the janitor use to answer the phone for me and leave messages for al. they rarily answered email. hows faqua doing? i havent seen bob since he shot his palm around christmas 95?? whew. btw...the old hi std factory in hamden is a big mens apparrel store and grocery now. you can still see the old high standard image on the front of the building on dixwell ave. the bldg to the right of the entrance is now where public works stores salt and sand for the winter. they store plows inside too. imagine that! btw....was it true al hired wetbacks to work in the houston plant? his tank must have been too hot because a lot of his guns came out red instead of blue! those guys couldnt even drill vent rib holes on victor bbls straight! i stopped buying from them.[xx(]

    bobski,
allen and family like to think they are big shots. most of what you said is true. the true story of the houston operation is to long and probably should not be discussed here. i believe the new group has allen on payroll as a consultant, every one else but bob shea seem to be out of the picture.
