7.62 surplus
i have a new unfired remington 7400 autoloader. i want to "break" it and my mags in before i buy good stuff for deer hunting. have read about differences in headspacing. question: will nato 7.62 surplus, (am thinking about aussie ammo) be safe to shoot? thanks.

surplus 308 ammo should be safe; but I'd recommend against it. Here's why. I have a 7400 and it is a bear to clean. Major pain in the A. That Army surplus ammo is as dirty as it gets. So I'd buy a case of cheap but clean ammo to break it in with.
Also, Be aware of accuracy problems w/ soft point rounds. They don't load w/ out damaging the tip.

The Aussie ammo is cleaner than most factory ammo available here in the states. I just purchased 1800 more rds just because. The powder is an extruded powder produced by Mulwex, who just happens to be the company that makes Varget for Hodgdon. There should be no issue shooting it in your 7400.
