Yes, a m44 stock will fit a 91-30. the only different parts that come to mind are the stcok, barrel, sights and bayonet.

I have the bolt from a M44 which shoots fine in a Finnish M39, which has a Finnish barrel built on a Russian M91 receiver.

So, if my new Mosin came with a bolt not originally its own, how do I know if it's safe to shoot?

The question was asked whether the parts interchange.

Before you shoot a different bolt in the M44, you should check the headspace.

Only thing that might be a factor is if you have one of the early ones with a hex receiver, but I don't consider myself a Mosin Nagant guru ...

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

Hello, personally I don't worry about the different bolts. If you are worried have the head spacing checked by a gunsmith. I have three M44s with original bolts but I have 9 total Mosin Nagants plus about three extra bolts. Never had a problem changing bolts.

Paranoid keeps you alive, worry just gives you stomach problems.

Don't worry about interchanging bolts on the 91/30s, M38s or M44s. They were made to be interchangable and the design of the chamber, firing mechanisms, and bolts are exactly the same. The modifications came with the barrel length and accessories - such as the bayonet. The 38s pre-dated the 44s, but because of the war the Russians opted for the cheaper to make 44s to replace the 38s. There might be a difference in the different country models, however. Some were manufactured in the Bloc countries, some were copied, and some were war stockage from Russia that was re-stamped. If you have Tula or Izshek arsenal rifles, don't worry.
