luger
Have a German Luger with the DWM on the toggel. The S/N is 77xx and the only stamps on are "Made in Germany" and the proof mark. I need more information on the gun please. Blue book lists it as being made in 1900. The cal. is .30. On the front of sight is a "D". There is a loop mark below the S/N on the front of the fram. The number 14 is on the rear of the gun just below the rear sight. This is all that I can find on the gun. Should I be looking for more marks and is there a sight some place for just Lugers?

Not desireable, but it won't hurt anything, either. Of course, I've seen sellers who use white grease pencil to cover rust within the lettering.
It can easily be removed with acetone & a nylon brush.

I recently acquired a Luger DWM. Most of the serial numbers, the proof markings and the DWM logo have white in the letering. What is this? Is it desireable to have this white? Who put it there? any help appreciated.0 -
You can goto www.radix.net This website supplies all ordinance codes to tell you wheere your luger was made when and by who.

ptblank, Since DWM was out of business long before WWII I wouldn't expect to find anything relevent on the WWII German Ordnance websites.
Your question was just about the white in the lettering so I don't know if you know much about your Luger. Most of the military Lugers will have a date stamped over the chamber. There are many variations of the Luger. All except the parts guns are collectable and some are worth much more than the others. If you will post barrel length, caliber, chamber marking or date and whether or not it has a grip safety or stock lug on the back of the grip, I will try to help you identify which model you have.0 -
Sorry for the bad info. ptblank. Herschel is right. my uncle just made me aware of DWM. Hope I didn't waste too much of your time.[:I]
