Weapon for Animal Control Officer
Any good recommendations for a weapon for a smallish female, County Animal Control Officer ?
She may have to dispatch anything fron an injured possum to a dog, pig, deer or cow. Right now she has a 9mm S&W.

357mag or 357sig or step up to a compact 10mm?

9mm should suffice in that capacity. Powerful yet not too loud as to disturb the locals. A Ruger P90 or a 1911 might be a manageable package with a little more "umph".

A "Snake Charmer II" in .410 should work about right for anything. Load with 000 buck. Not much cleanup either. 0 -
9 is fine ...

I think for a sidearm, a .357, 9mm, or .40 would be fine. But, I think this would be handy to have hanging in the back window of her truck.

I've got one of those Stevens 22/.410's and they are fantastic. But to compliment the 9mm sidearm I'd be more inclined toward the newer Savage O/U. You could get the one in 30/30 over 12 guage. That and her sidearm and she'd be pretty well set for most any situation. 0 -
There is a video clip they show on one of the animal shows { When good animals go bad or something similar } that has a LA or SF animal control officer { small black woman } going to take in a pit bull that has bitten several people. The dog owner sounds about 1/2 past looney and sics the dog onto the officer who you can tell has NO training for such a situation. The end result is she got mauled pretty badly. In this situation a 20 ga riot gun would have been best. #7.5 shot in the chamber, #4 shot next up with #4 buckshot after that. The officer is going to have to have a strategy before exiting the vehicle so if attacked there is no one in the line of fire. Does an animal control officer need a sidearm?
