NO MATTER HOW TOUGH TIMES GET, THIS IS ONE GUN YOU SHOULD NEVER SELL OR PAWN!

This link will take you to the current 1991 models:

Here's the model I have, a 01091, and I put McCormick Slim Grips on it (available from the manufacturer - best way to do it; they are shooters, selling to shooters; you can get any shade from deep red to a blond color)

Here's a little collage I made with my gun and J.M Brown:

..could it be a CCO "concealed carry officer's" model. Only made in '98 Alloy frame S/S slide. I picked mine up in 98 for $485 see them in Gunlist and on the net for $1195 new. Great weapon! Carry it daily... I concurr never let it go, especially if from your Dad.

Exactly. You now have an heirloom. Enjoy it and my compliment's on your father's taste of firearms.

jfwright, I am not sure the model "Commanding Officers Model" is correct. There were many variations of the model 1911 made in the past and many are still being made. I am not a Colt expert but have never heard of that specific model. I suspect that your pistol is one of the government issue 1911A1's. If so it most likely will have a parkerized finish. If you will post the serial number I am sure several who follow this forum can give you the information you desired. The condition of the pistol is the primary factor in value. One caution, don't refinish or overzealously clean the pistol. Many who post on the forums don't give the complete serial number. I personally don't mind posting the complete number but you might put X's for the last couple of digits. When we identify exactly what you have and the amount of original finish remaining, etc. we can help you get a fair market value.
