If it is for conceal and carry, I absolutely would not arm myself with a charles daly, upgrade to springfield IMHO.

I would check out the Colt Defender in .45acp I've had mine for almost a year and put about 2000 rounds through it so far. No complaints about it at all.

jwolf i own 2 cd, but do not carry either. if you are looking for a primary carry gun money should not be an issue, it very well could be your life on line our your familys. colt defender is not a bad choice. for me my primary is a kimber. springfield is not a bad choice either. if you are just going to the range or plinking then go ahead witht the cd, if you are looking for primary carry gun, give it alot of thought! both of my cd have expirenced stove pipes. happy hunting and good luck!

For general use CD pistols are good and a good value. CCW is another matter, but if money is truly tight and you can't find anything else that falls within your present budget then you may want to go ahead if you feel that you can't wait till you have a couple hundred more to put into a CCW piece.

Myself, I would go for a good revolver in 357 mag. before I would go with a lower cost auto ... I know ... capacity, I can hear the gnashing of teeth out there, but hey I would just as soon have 6 that go boom (even 5) as a semi that goes belly up after the 1st of 2nd shot. When someone is trying to do you or another serious if not the ultimate harm, that is not a good time to work on your "tap-rack-bang" skills. 357 Mag. w/ 125gr. JHP (gold dot, golden saber, hydrashok ...) will get the job done if the shooter does their job.

Wow those are pretty definative answers. I have been around firearms all my life and have owned Colts and Springfields in .45 acp. Guess what I experienced stove pipes in both so I dont really believe that is the weapon's issue just a sometimes thing that may have to do with grip or ammo or maybe just cleanliness (I was at the range quite awhile) yes it will be for CCW I looked at a Kimber today it had a 3.5 bbl front and back checkering tritium sights, ambi extended thumb safeties and a beaver tail also a lowered and flared ejection port and a blue aluminum frame. Very Nice Piece however it cost $1050.00 way over my range right now. The CD was in my price range and was pretty nice too. I just have never had any experience with them. I appriciate your comments and suggestions please give more. Also can this weapon be tuned like most other 1911's but 2 votes for the defender will have me looking there but maybe I will have to wait for a little more saving to get that Kimber
