The .30 Remington cartridge was a rimless version of the .30-30. The model 8l Remington rifle, a now obsolete semi-auto was chambered for it. 0 -
Herschel is correct as to the 30 Rem.I've never heard of a 30-30Win Semi.
Love them Pre-64's!!!!-Bob0 -
I don't see why the gun companies couldn't make a semi version. Ruger makes a 44 auto which has a rim case similar to the 30-30.
I think it would make a great deer rifle.0 -
Interesting bit of trivia; Years ago, the 30-30 lever action was modified by addition of a "flapper" with a hole in the middle, attached to an actuating rod that worked the lever, which resulted in a self-loading rifle with a rate of fire approaching 250 rounds per minute.
Does anyone remember the inventors' name?
If you know it all; you must have been listening.<br>WEAR EAR PROTECTION!0 -
As I recall it was the Remington Model 8, semi auto available in .25 Rem., .30 Rem., and .35 Rem. More trivia, FN made a version of the same in a 9mm cartridge interchanging with the .35 Rem. Friend of mine had one. 0 -
Gunnut
I don't believe that was a 30-30, more likely a older cartridge.
Anyway, it was done by the brothers Browning.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
If memory serves correct, Browning did it with the 94 Winchester and later Ruger did it with a Savage 99 chambered for 250/3000. The Ruger system was a bit more complicated. 0 -
Thanks for all the input. Any suggestions in making a semi 30-30 ??? 0 -
The gun that gunnut505 mentioned was on display at the Browning Firearms Museum in Ogden, Utah back in 1999 when I went thru there. It was indeed an 1894 Winchester 30-30. Pretty strange looking contraption, but they had to start somewhere and it worked. -- As far as making/converting something to semi-auto 30-30 nowdays, I think there are guns out there already that are similar and a lot less trouble. -- Just get a Ruger mini-30 in 7.62x39 and load it with soft point ammo for one that's close. Or get a Browning BAR or Remington semi-auto in 308 Win. for even more power.............[8D] 0
