I have a Winchester Model 1892 that is a shooter not a collector. I am looking for a stock and forearm in better shape then those that are on it and have been told that the stocks and forearms from the Model 1894 will fit the 1892. Anyone know for a fact that this is true?

Hello Hunterj50,
Yes, it is true. The following is a direct quote from one of my reference books;
"With the start of the M1892 production, Winchester had taken steps to tighten up its formerly lenient manufacturing tolerances to eliminate the large amount of hand work needed for stocking previous models. As a result, buttstocks are readily interchangeable between the M1892 and the later M1894 rifles and carbines. In fact, rifle buttstocks are interchangeable between the M1892, M1894 and M1895 rifles. However, the M1892/94 carbine stock cannot be interchanged with the M1895 carbine buttstock because of the shorter M1895 carbine buttplate tang." end quote
From the same source;
"M1892 forends installed on the .38/.44 caliber rifles will interchange with M1894 rifle forends. But the M1894 rifle forend magazine tunnel is too large for the .25/.32 caliber magazine tube." end quote
In other words, if you hava a Model 1892/92 in 32 WCF or 25-20 WCF, a forend from a Model 1894 will not work.
I hope this answered your question.

Hi Bert H.
Thanks for the quick info. I can probably live with the forarm as my 92 is a 32-20 but that info might make finding a better stock easier.
