Just for you guys info. it took 16/1000's shim to get the scope to center. I was within 15% of middle of number of clicks when centered so I'll try it tomorrow hopefully! Thought you'd want to know and had to do a new thread cause the original was locked! GHD

Do you think a 20MOA base could replace the shims? I have never used them, But wonder if the thickness would be close to equal? Also JustC had a great point about the scope having less travel than other MFg's
(Think that is what he was saying.) Never the less I have learned a boat load of info for a problem that I have never ran across (or noticed). Thats a good thing! [:D]

I would think the 20MOA bases would more than replace the shims! I wasn't crazy about the shimming but it worked so I'll live with it! This gun won't be a thousand yard gun anyway. I'm anxious to try the mil-dot reticle out on the 400-600 yard stuff! Will let you know how it goes! GHD 0 -
How about I send you a 20moa 1 peice base (leupold)? The shims don't make for a stable platform as vibration will shift POI. I know you like the one hole groups like me.[8D]

FYI, with a 3.6" ring spacing .001 shim = 1MOA (close enough). Closer spacing has a greater effect, wider spacing less.
You currently have (about) 16MOA of shims in to get close, a 20MOA base would be ideal (and give you just a tad more UP adjustment)
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -

KJ, It did ok this PM. 60 degrees here and still!!! It seems to like the 42 grains of Varget with the 70 grain TNT's at 3485 and also the 40.7 grains of BENCHMARK with the TNT's at 3465fps. Also figured out that the first mil-dot down is PERFECT for 300 yards in the Elite 4200! Would have checked it at 400 but somebody we know didn't load enough ammo!! It did 1.5" at 300 using the Varget load at 300 so it should be "workable"!!! The same load did .312@ 100 but we all know 100 yards is stuff for the 17HMR or a pistol!! Remember my saying....1/2 inch at 100 is easy! 2" at 500 is somewhat tougher!!! Just for you and ohioghog's pleasure, the 6mm is very pleasant to shoot and so far has been an extremely easy to load for chambering! It will absolutely smoke some pills using 52.8 grains of 760 and either the 55BT or the 58VMAX!!! We're talking 4100 plus!!!! No sense in that!! And not even max loads!!! The VMax's will do under 3/4 at that speed!!!!! They are so d... fast they might not expand on a chuck till they are 3 feet behind him!!! [:D][:D][:D]GHD 0 -
Ya oughta try the heavy pills, really packs a wallop downrange. I usually use 80-100 gr PSP's loaded to 3000-3100 fps. Gonna take her out tomorrow and see if I can shoot some good groups, guess I shouldn't drink any coffee in the morning[;)]

KJ, The 87 grain VMaxs shot under .5 using 39 grains of VARGET and they averaged 3227fps. That should probably be a very usable load! At that speed and with the little recoil, you can watch them hit the target! I'm going to try them at extended distance and I'll bet they do a number on a groundhog! GHD 0 -

I have a desire to build a 6mm one day,...but the wyoming trip will stall that project for a year or so[:(]
