Custom stock questions
I want to make my own stock for a rifle, what are some things I need to consider when making it? I'd like a pistol grip or thumbhole stock, what are drawbacks/advantages? Thanks in advance.

Depends on what your doing, Varmint shooting, Bechrest, Silhouette, General hunting. the link above will give you an idea of the stock types that fit what your shooting style is. [:)]

Thanks, but I have some really nice Indonesian Rosewood and would like to make it myself. I just want to make sure I'm going to build something I'll actually like and love to use. I'm going to be target shooting, mostly getting a bunch of ammo and going out with friends to shoot out in the woods. Thanks for the link. 0 -
I like some thumbhole stocks for shooting off a rest or bench.Have used them mostly for target and varmit shooting. Most of the factory or mass produced thumbholes don't fit my hand well as I have a very large grip and my thumb knuckle hits the top of the hole. If you shape it yourself, it should be fine. -- Just decide what your primary use will be. -- I don't like them on a hunting rifle because if you use your safety, you have to remove your hand from the hole to be able to reach the safety with your thumb, and lose your grip on the rifle. Probably not a good thing if you are hunting things like bears, etc. -- Just something to consider...............[8D] 0 -
Unless you are very, very good at wood working you might want to consider working a deal with a stock maker to at least rough it our for you, lest you end up with a lot of wood shavings and no functional stock to show for it.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Do you know where I could go to get a stock maker to rough it out for me? 0
