When I took my S&W M669 to a gunsmith for trigger work, he told he that there wasn't a lot that he could do to improve the trigger on 1st & 2nd generation S&W DA autos. You may have to live with it.

Shoot the heck out of it. Seriously, I was issued a new Model 4046 and the trigger was very heavy. It lightened up and smoothed out after a great deal of shooting. Carried it for ten years before we went to Glocks, bought it for $250 as I was the only one that carried it.

The only thing worse than lawbreakers, are lawmakers.

You could try a full disassembly to look for high spots where parts of the lockwork might be dragging on the frame. Other than this, lightening the pull on this pistol involves replacing or modifying the mainspring and/or trigger return spring.

For reliability's sake, I'd say to stick with smoothing up the rough spots and maintaining good lubrication on the lockwork.
