Luger Model

dwr111, I believe you meant to write Luger as that we in the USA call the pistol the Germans called the Parabellum or P08. The made in USA indicates the gun was imported for commercial sale as opposed to one being brought home as a war souvenir. The most common of these commercial Lugers is the 1920 commercial. Most were .30 Luger cal. and were military issue pistols that were reworked for commercial sale. The serial number is probably one through four digits and may have a letter under it. The toggle link will probably be stamped with DWM in script which may not be easy to read. Many of these guns have had parts swapped over the years. I hope all parts on yours are original to the pistol. Most every part will have the last two digits of the sn stamped somewhere on them. Let me know it I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks Herschel.

Duh! Yes I meant Luger. It does have the DWM on the toggle link. It does have a four digit serial number 62xx with the small letter "i" below it. Nowhere does it say made in the USA. It has "Made in Germany" on the side of the chamber (which is upside down) and on the front of the grip as well as the word "Germany" on the barrel. This is what is confusing to me. The safety is located above the grip, in which the thumb would operate. I believe it to be a commercial model, and would assume the importer is identified by the "N" with a crown above it.

Duh here too. I meant to say Made In Germany when I wrote Made In USA above. The crown over N is a proof mark. The DWM stands for Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken. The maker of most of the early Lugers. The Germany and Made in Germany were stamped to comply with US import laws. The 1920 Commercials were military pistols that had been modified by having the date ground off the chamber (you will be able to see a slightly flatter contour there) and the barrel usually replaced with a .30 (7.65 Luger cal) barrel usually of just under 4" in length. The importer of these pistols was A. F. Stoeger Co. of New York.

Ok, we're even. [:D] I think you are right on with the exception that my barrel length is aprox 5-1/8". Any chance on giving a range of value on a 80% condition, and assuming all the numbers match. I have found a matching number on the outside of the gun, but have not dissembled it to check for others.

    Thanks again.
