    Kris...

There is no source for blackpowder rimfire ammo... of any caliber. However, Navy Arms makes smokeless powder 32 Rimfire that is perfectly safe to shoot in your Remington... PROVIDED that it is in safe/shootable mechanical condition. If in doubt, have it checked by a 'smith first.

I should clarify my answer just a bit... there is no source for "modern" made blackpowder rimfire ammo. If you haunt some of the larger gunshows, you might be able to find a box of origial ammo, but it won't be cheap (or recommended to shoot).

There is a excellant smith not to far from you, Bruce at Flint-N-Frizzen, Dixie Hwy just north of I-75 in Clarkston. You can't miss it, just look for the LCT (Landing Craft, Tracked) and DUCK (amphibious truck) out front.

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

Does it take Longs or Short 32 ?

Hard to find Ammunition. Have a lot always looking for more.

Be cautious about the Navy Arms stuff. I've seen some lots where the cases would routinely, consistently, split on firing. It will cost more and is harder to find, but Western and Dominion continued loading both Longs and Shorts well after WW2 (Remington might have as well) although they stopped decades ago. These are mild smokeless loads, also. I'd give you dates, but most of my references are packed. The Dominion is the most recent of this group. Be sure you have the 'smith check the caliber while he is verifying mechanical condition - there were actually *several* .32 RF designs, essentially variations in case length. On the original BP ammo, there is still a lot of it kicking around . . . I pick up multiple handfuls of loose specimens almost every year as part of larger lots. As Bert noted, its shootability is problematic, but BP rimfires tend to age much better than the early smokeless loads. I saw an article sometime in the past 5 - 10 years in which some guy with deep pockets conducted an experiment using .56-50 Spencer rounds made for the Civil War. He fired (or attempted to fire) several hundred and the vast majority went off, more than 130 years after they were made. It wasn't that long ago that you'd see an occasional news story about some farmer here or in Europe being injured or killed by plowing up a BP cannon shell.

Bert, to conserve space for another poster, I'll reply here. The firearm in question is chambered in .32 L RF and shoots brass cased ammunition and some lots of the Navy Arms stuff just fine. The cases which failed simply split. Perhaps there is a slight dimensional issue and the stronger cases (both brass and copper) can handle it? Not my firearm and I don't recall much about the gun itself other than we spent the best part of an afternoon experimenting with different boxes of N.A. rounds and some brass rounds I had acquired over the years (both Western and Dominion).

Pinhead, while OWS often has what others do not, for me they are the resource of absolute last resort because of their pricing. If it were not a rimfire, I'd advise the buyer to consider acquiring case forming & loading tools rather than pay those blue sky + 15% prices at OWS.

I shoot the Navy Arms 32 RF in one of my Winchester Model 1885 low-wall Single-shots, and I have never had a problem with it (no split cases). I would opine that the cause of split cases is either the chamber is the not correct size (using incorrect ammo for the firearm in question), or that the chamber has become enlarged due to various causes (corrosion, over zealous cleaning, etc.). On a properly sized chamber, the case will not split.

Iconoclast... good idea on saving a spot for the next guy[:)]

Too bad you could not re-examine that rifle again. It would be real interesting to see if the cases that split were all splitting in the same chamber location/orientation. Also to closely examine the chamber of the barrel... oh well. One last thing to mention, an occasional split case (at least in a strong action single shot rifle) should not be a problem (safety-wise). Lastly... I completely agree with you on good old Dangerous Dave's prices[V]... I try to avoid buying much of anything from them (but I do have an order in for 2000 rounds of the 5mm Rem Mag rimfire).

Kris, the Old Western Scrounger used to have .32 Rimfire in both long and short(2000 catalog) for about 24 o 25 dollars a box of 50. Might want to give him a call at 530-459-5445. He's helped me with odd stuff in the past.

kris, give this guy a call as well on 32 rimfire. His name is Ron McCarty and he runs a shop as a second business called:
    R&R Brass&Bullets
    The number is 859-289-5993
The best time to call is between 4PM and 8PM Eastern time on Mondays & Tuesdays.
The rest of the week he works 2 other jobs and sets up at gun shows on weekends. The reason I say call between 4 and 8 is he sometimes substitute teaches during the day of Monday And Tuesday as well. He works at something 7 days a week! He had some 32 rimfire as of last week but if he is out, he knows where to find it.

The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you.
